About Capiz shells :

Capiz shells are actually the outer shells of a marine mollusc. Its scientific name is the placuna, more commonly known as the window oyster.

The shells come from the Philippines and are so named because they were originally harvested in the shallow coastal waters near the town of Capiz, on the island of Paray.

Once cleaned, the shells are naturally translucent and once painted allow a perfect interaction between light and colour.
